Artist K. Harvey born in Yorkshire and grew up in London. He explores contemporary art historical, social and political narratives throughout his artistic practice, where artworks come together through initial impulse and material qualities. Drawing on memories, personal history, re-imaging familiar scenes and inspirational places he experiments with translations, capturing qualities of light, form and colour which he sees around him. Working in oils, acrylic, charcoal and pastels paintings begin with sketches, photography and the layering and building of colour and tone. Some works he paints or draws immediately, others he makes a record of details, character and atmosphere, returning to his studio to formulate composition. The portrait series ‘Hemlock’ speak to people in a way that the written word and photography cannot, evoking a sense of unease in face of global challenges.
