About:

Heather's sculpture  – a dollop of whipped cream topped with a cherry, a fly and a drone – will take its place on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. The cream was chosen, says Phillipson, because it is a luxury item that has the potential to collapse at any minute. It seems to speak directly to the political climate, not least because, despite everything, the cream stays standing. “In some ways, I’d like things to be even less stable,” says Phillipson. “Things appear to be on the verge of collapse, but they never quite do.”

Heather Phillipson works across video, sculpture, web projects, music, drawing and poetry. She has been selected as the next artist for the Fourth Plinth, Trafalgar Square and for the Duveens Galleries commission at Tate Britain, both in 2020, and her new commissions in 2019 include Sharjah Biennial 14 and the Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin.

NOTE  - Artscape are project managing the Fourth Plinth project for Heather but do not represent her work.
