Watched #3 a print of the artwork installed at a former lifeboat shed relocated to the North Atlantic Lighthouse at Hanstholm as part of Human Presence/Menneskelig tilstedeværelse — a group exhibition by artists from across the North Atlantic at Hanstholm Artspace exploring the interaction between people and the landscape.
One of a series of three from a large-scale inflatable artwork which explores the landscape through architectural ruins. Watched is a series of works which fill the remains of three concrete bunkers — part of the German Second World War “Atlantic Wall” fortifications — and transforms them temporarily into artworks or follies in the landscape, as architectural anomalies.
Watched explores the history and purpose of these buildings, which were designed to be looked out from to observe the outside. Watched can also refer to the preserved status of these historical artefacts in the landscape. A reminder of the past, they are now looked after and to some extent preserved for future generations.
